Ephesians 4:10

Ephesians 4:10
He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.

I am fascinated by space. I love being beyond the lights of the city on a clear night and looking into the sky, seeing the beauty of the twinkling stars. There is so much out there that I will never understand. It is undiscovered, a grand mystery that is there for us to explore.

My parents loved watching the rockets and spaceships take off for the stars and for the moon. We would be riveted to the television watching the takeoffs and listening for words from the astronauts. Though they were nowhere near a television on July 20th, 1969, Mom’s poem “Walk on the Moon” shows how absorbed they were with that story.

It never occurred to me to be concerned whether my faith would be shaken by finding life on other planets. God is an amazing God and he does fill the universe. All of the universe. He has created us to fill this planet and he created amazing mysteries for us to discover. How could we not imagine that this universe is there for us to discover and explore.

God has given us these phenomenal minds that are constantly curious. And He also gave us an enigmatic universe – from our back yards, to the far reaches of space to exercise that curiosity. What kind of lives would we lead if there was nothing for us to discover. How bored would we be if we didn’t face mysteries every day?

Though we have this universe that is ahead of us and is a puzzle to us, I suppose that the comfort for me is that God created it and nothing can remove me from His presence. If I were lost in the outermost parts of the universe, He would be there. When I am lost in my own mind, He is there. He has filled the whole universe, whether it is the dark silence of space, or the random noise of my world.
